Audiobook mode

Pro.

Audiobook mode turns any book into an audiobook: natural voices, each word lit up as it’s read, a sleep timer, and listening that keeps going past the end of a chapter instead of stopping there. It lives in the same listening bar everyone has, under the book’s title. Press the headphones button in the Reader toolbar to show or hide the bar.

Each switch works on its own: turning one on or off never changes another.

Word by word

Each word lights up as the voice says it, inside the underlined sentence, and the words already read fade slightly. With the natural voices the timing is worked out from the length of each sentence’s audio, so on a long sentence a word can light up slightly early or late. Turn it off with the Light up each word switch, or in Settings.

It keeps going

Pages turn by themselves, and at the end of a chapter the next one starts, until the book ends or the sleep timer stops it. In a PDF it keeps going to the end of the book. Your place is saved the whole time, so pressing Play tomorrow carries on from where you stopped.

Settings

In Settings → Reading Vault, under Listening, the same switches as on the bar (changing one place changes the other):

Without Pro

Listen still works with your computer’s own voices and underlines the sentence being read. It stops at the end of each chapter (in a PDF without chapters, after every 10 pages). The Pro buttons on the listening bar explain what Pro adds.
